NYSEG Still Assessing Power Restoration for Hundreds in Southern Tier

New York State Electric and Gas crews and their contractors are going to continue to be busy getting facilities repaired and power back on to customers around the region following a massive line of thunderstorms that ripped through the area starting at around 2 p.m. August 8.

Winds in some locations were put at 60 miles per hour, dropping trees across roads and bringing down power lines. At 7:30 p.m, around 13000 NYSEG customers were without power.  by 4 a.m. the next morning, the utility was still “assessing” restoration time for several hundred customers in Broome, Chenango, Delaware and Tioga Counties.  In areas where the NYSEG website was not just reporting they were “assessing” restoration time, customers were being advised power may not be back on until after 11:30 p.m. August 9.

Residents who are still without power should bear in mind they will want to keep refrigerators and freezer doors closed as much as possible.  Most food will last 24 hours if opening the doors is kept to a minimum.
