NYSEG says while its crews are ready, it is urging people heading out to trick or treat to be aware of their surroundings as downed lines could be hidden under leaves or other debris on the road and sidewalk.

As for the potential for power issues, the utility says the rain softening the soil conditions coupled with expected gusty winds Friday makes for a potential for trees and limbs to come down, damaging overhead power lines and other electrical equipment.

Officials advise people to keep battery-operated radios and flashlights on hand, keep mobile devices like cell phones charged and fill your vehicle’s gas tank.
