Our veterans, young and old, live with both visible and invisible scars gained during their time of service and so often they aren’t given the respect and appreciation they deserve.

There are several organizations in and around Broome County working to fight back against the abandonment our veterans face at home and those organizations have stepped up with a variety of services, ceremonies, and special events aimed at showing our treasured veterans that our community truly hasn’t forgotten their sacrifices.

The Binghamton Elks Lodge #70 is one of these organizations. As a matter of fact, they applied for and received a very special Freedom Grant so that they could say thank you to our local veterans by hosting a ‘Take a Vet Fishing’ day. The 'Take a Vet Fishing' event will be held this Sunday, September 2nd at Dorchester Park from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Local veterans and their families are invited to enjoy a carefree day of relaxation, fishing, food, and friendship and all of this is completely free of charge, the Elk's way of showing their gratitude.

If you are a Broome County area veteran and you're interested in a day of free fishing (fishing equipment and license will be included), boating, swimming, and a delicious BBQ in a handicapped accessible pavilion, please reach out to Crystal at (607)775-4195 or Sue at (607) 752-0679 as soon as possible so that a spot can be reserved for you.
