Johnson City “Five Guys” Restaurant Opens Next Week
A second Five Guys restaurant location is about to start operating in Broome County.
The fast-growing chain based in Virginia has had a Vestal store near Binghamton University for several years.
The next location will be only a couple of miles away at the Oakdale Commons in Johnson City.
Workers have been renovating the former Ruby Tuesday restaurant site in preparation for the new Five Guys eatery.
The Ruby Tuesday location had operated at what was the Oakdale Mall for three decades. It closed in the spring of 2020 in the early weeks of the Covid 19 pandemic.
Representatives of FGNY - Five Guys New York - told WNBF News the Johnson City restaurant will open on January 17 at 11 a.m.
The new 2,900-square-foot restaurant will be similar to the Vestal Parkway location but it will feature two ordering kiosks. Customers will also be able to place orders in the traditional way at the counter.
The Oakdale Commons Five Guys will have seating for 80 people inside and 20 outdoors - when weather permits.
About 30 people have been hired to work at the new restaurant. It will be open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Five Guys is noted for using hand-formed fresh beef patties for its burgers. The restaurants also have earned a reputation for serving fries cooked in 100 percent peanut oil.
