Johnson City Gets Colorful Boost from Canadian Artist
A traveling artist from Quebec is back in Broome County, working to brighten the side of a drab downtown building.
Danaé Brissonnet is painting a large mural on Main Street in Johnson City. She's being assisted by her mother, Daphné.
They are transforming a plain-looking wall into a colorful piece of public art. Their "canvas" is on the east side of a two-story building that had been home to Health Beat Natural Foods before the store closed in 2023.
During a brief break from painting, Danaé Brissonnet told WNBF News it was "wonderful" to be back in the Binghamton area. She and her mom created a larger mural on the Rathskeller building on State Street three years ago.
Brissonnet said the Johnson City mural will acknowledge the importance of the shoe industry to the region. Endicott Johnson factories employed thousands of people in the village and surrounding communities during the first half of the 20th century.
The mother-and-daughter team have been working at the site for the last few days. They expect to complete the project over the next week or so.
