Southern Tier Broadcaster Moving Up In Hockey World With New Job

Friday, August 12th was the final Visions Summer Concert Series at the Visons Veterans Memorial Arena. Going on at the same time was the Binghamton Black Bears Fan Fest event.

I was looking forward to the Black Bears second season at the arena and all the new things that would be coming our way. I have to admit that one of the changes made me a little sad. It's a selfish reason I admit.

That's when my friend, Rob Lippolis informed me that he wasn't coming back but was getting a new hockey job.

I've known Rob since 2017 when he was hired to be the play-by-play broadcaster for the Binghamton Devils. After the Devils split town and went to Utica, he stayed home and joined the Federal Prospect Hockey Leagues (FPHL), Binghamton Black Bears.

He was the Director of Communications and play-by-play man for the team and won the FPHL Broadcaster of The Year Award. An award that he richly deserved. He told me the news at Fan Fest.

I'm sure it was a tough decision but one that he couldn't pass up. I don't blame him, he's a talented broadcaster and even a better person. I've worked with him through the years with Chuck-a-Puck and the Teddy Bear Toss, just to name a few.

He's rejoining the New Jersey Devils organization and will be the new Broadcaster and Director of Communications for the Adirondack Thunder. They are an ECHL affiliate of the New Jersey and Utica Devils.

During the 2020-21 season, he called several games for the New Jersey Devils and I wouldn't be surprised to see him with the big club before long. Rob, you will be missed in the Southern Tier and I wish you all the best...just don't forget us little people while your gone.
