Binghamton Guinness World Records Puzzle Event Sept 26

Binghamton is about to become the puzzle capital of the world! On Saturday, September 26, 2026, the New York Jigsaw Puzzle Association (NYJPA) will bring Race for the Records to the Visions Veterans Memorial Arena, and organizers are calling it one of the largest jigsaw puzzle events ever attempted.

Doors open at 8:30 a.m., with the event running until 5 p.m. Organizers expect between 3,000 and 5,000 people from across the United States and Canada to show up with one shared goal: making puzzling history in Broome County.

Binghamton Guinness World Records Puzzle Attempts Set for September

Throughout the day, participants will chase three separate Guinness World Records titles. First up, starting at 9 a.m., is the largest human jigsaw puzzle piece, which requires roughly 3,000 people to form the shape of a puzzle piece in the arena's parking lot and hold it for five minutes while it's judged from above. From there, the group moves on to most signatures collected on a puzzle, followed by most contributions made to a jigsaw puzzle within an eight-hour window. If you're planning to be part of that first attempt, plan on lining up by 8:30 a.m. sharp, since that one only works if everybody's in place at once.

Binghamton Puzzle Event Features 40,000 Piece Disney Finale

The day builds toward assembling Ravensburger's 40,000-piece Disney puzzle, one of the largest commercially available puzzles in the world, spread across ten building stations with a puzzle champion at each one to keep things moving. Alongside that centerpiece, the event will include speed-puzzling competitions, community puzzle-building tables, interactive activities, and vendors. No special skill is required, so if the closest you've come to competitive puzzling is fighting your kids over the last piece of a 500-piece Christmas puzzle, you're still qualified.

"Jigsaw puzzles have an incredible ability to bring people together," said Valerie Mackey, chairperson for the New York Jigsaw Puzzle Association. She added that the event is about building community and encouraging people of every age to step away from their screens and connect with one another, which is the kind of mission I can get behind after a summer of everybody staring at their phones on the porch.

Organizers have extended invitations to elected officials, celebrities known for their love of puzzling, and prominent figures from the international puzzling community, so don't be surprised if you spot a familiar face at a folding table sorting edge pieces.

The NYJPA was founded in 2025 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit. Its mission centers on the educational, cognitive, and social benefits of jigsaw puzzling, which it promotes through competitions, community events, and educational outreach across New York State, and this event looks like it's shaping up to be their biggest swing yet.
