Heavy Rain Could Bring Flooding to Twin Tiers
The National Weather Service in Binghamton has issued a Flood Watch for the Twin Tiers from 2 p.m. April 30 until 2 p.m. May 1
The watch area includes Broome, Tioga, Chenango, Cortland, Delaware and Otsego Counties in New York and, in northeast Pennsylvania: Bradford, Susquehanna and Wayne Counties.
Forecasters say to expect one and a half to three inches of rain from Thursday afternoon through Thursday night.
That rainfall amount is expected to result in significant rises on area rivers. Officials say minor flooding of some main stem rivers may occur Thursday night into Friday.
High rainfall rates during the period could also lead to localized flash flooding, especially urban and poor drainage areas as well as creeks and small streams.
Officials say residents should watch for forecast updates and possible Flood Warnings, if necessary.
People who live and work in flood-prone areas should be ready to take action should flooding develop.
