Finally! Harbor Freight Tools Opening Its Binghamton Store
Another Harbor Freight Tools store is opening in Broome County - several months later than the company initially planned.
The new location is at 1272 Upper Front Street in the town of Chenango, just north of Binghamton.
The spot had been home to the Nasco Home and Flooring Center for more than three decades. But the property was sold in June 2023 for $675,000 for a new Harbor Freight site and Nasco closed its doors a few weeks later.
Harbor Freight's goal of opening at the site was delayed for months because the two-acre property lies in the floodplain.
The changes needed for the new store were labeled a "substantial improvement" to the existing building which meant action was needed to make the place more resilient to flooding.
Developers ultimately had to remove the lower portion of the walls on all for sides of the building and reconstruct the place to make it less vulnerable to future floods. It's not known how much the additional work cost.
In recent weeks, shelving and equipment was installed in the new store. Workers on Friday were busy stocking the place for the upcoming opening.
Harbor Freight representatives said the store will open on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
Broome County's first Harbor Freight store has operated on the Vestal Parkway in Vestal for more than 13 years.
