16 Sports Greats were inducted into the Greater Binghamton Sports Hall of Fame at the Double Tree by Hilton. Over 300 guests, friends and family members were on hand to welcome the new inductees April 20.

Chairman for the event was Anthony Quagliata of AJQ Sports Management & Marketing.  Montrose native and All-Pro lineman with the New York Giants, Chris Snee, was the keynote speaker.

The list of inductees covered a wide range of careers and backgrounds in athletics.  The honorees include:

  • Alex Alexander, founder of the B.C.Open
  • Fran Angeline, Head Football Coach at Union-Endicott for over three decades
  • Dick Baldwin, Men's Basketball Coach at Broome Community College and Binghamton University
  • Bob Campbell, Multi-sport standout at Vestal High and 1969 Orange Bowl MVP with the Penn State Nittany Lions
  • John W. Fox, Sports Editor for Press and Sun Bulletin
  • Carl Gaffney, Executive Director of STAC
  • Bess Greenberg, All-American Basketball standout at Binghamton University
  • Jack Halloran, Served 41 years as Head Basketball Coach at Whitney Point winning  630 games
  • Dick Hoover, Winner of 182 games as Head Football Coach at Vestal
  • Isaiah Kacyvenski, Standout football player at Union-Endicott, Harvard and the NFL
  • Johnny Logan, Union-Endicott standout who went on to play 13 seasons in Major league Baseball
  • Ron Luciano, U-E star football player, All-American at Syracuse and Major League Baseball Umpire
  • Jim Matthews, Sr., founder of the Broome Dusters
  • Master Hidi Ochiai, founder of Washin-Ryu style of Karate, Member of Black Belt Hall of Fame
  • King Rice, All American basketball standout at Binghamton High, Captain at University of North Carolina for legendary coach Dean Smith and current men's basketball coach at Monmouth
  • Ray Stanton II, founder of the T C Jets and member of the American Football Hall of Fame

Hall of Fame plaques awarded to each inductee will be on display at the Oakdale Mall in future weeks.
