Former Binghamton Mets GM Passes Away

The first General Manager of the Binghamton Mets has died.  R.C. Reuteman passed away on August 24th in Jacksonville, Florida at the age of 59.  Reuteman most recently was Sponsorship Sales Manager for the Jacksonville Suns of the Southern League.

Reuteman was hired by the New York Mets to run their Double-A affiliate in Binghamton in 1991 and asked to oversee the building and establishment of the operation at what is now called NYSEG Stadium.  Under his management Binghamton won Eastern League Championships in two of its first three seasons...1992 and 1994. In 1992 the B-Mets drew 284,529 fans earning Reuteman Eastern League Executive of the Year honors as well as the Frank Cashen Award from the New York Mets organization.  The Cashen Award honors the top minor league executive of the year in New York's Minor League system.

Reuteman left Binghamton after the 2000 season to oversee the launch of the Brooklyn Cyclones in the New York-Penn League.  In the Cyclones' first season they averaged more then 8,300 fans per game.  There, he earned his second Frank Cashen Award.

Reuteman also served stints as the Assistant General Manager of the Triple-A Tidewater Tides, the General Manager of the Cooperstown Hawkeyes in the PGCBL, the Atlantic League's Newark Bears and the Worcester Tornadoes of the Can-Am League.
