Former B-Mets Broadcaster Orsillo Heads to San Diego

Former Binghamton Mets' play-by-play broadcaster Don Orsillo is heading west next season.  Orsillo, the Radio Voice of the B-Mets from 1993-95, has worked for the New England Sports Network (NESN) as the play-by-play broadcaster for the Boston Red Sox.  His multi-year contract expires at the end of this season and NESN has elected not to renew the deal.  That left Orsillo to operate as a free agent

The San Diego Padres announced the hiring of Orsillo to join their broadcast team. According to sources he has signed a six-year contract with a raise over his NESN salary. He will broadcast games on both radio and television in 2016 and take over the television duties in 2017 replacing Dick Enberg upon his retirement.

Thousands of Red Sox fans were not happy with Orsillo's departure.  Reports indicate over 65,000 went online to sign a petition to bring him back. Fans at Fenway Park gave him a standing ovation during Boston's last home game of the season.
