An apartment house on Endicott's North Side was heavily damaged by a blaze that originated on a front porch of the structure.

Three adults and two teenagers who lived at 325 Odell Avenue were not injured in the fire, which was reported around 1:45 a.m.

Fire chief Joseph Griswold said there are three apartments in the three-story building. The blaze spread quickly through much of the structure.

Griswold said heat from the fire melted the siding and electric meters on a neighboring house. Two vehicles parked in a driveway were damaged.

About 40 firefighters battled the blaze. Units from Endwell, West Corners, Union Center, Vestal and Five Mile Point assisted the Endicott fire department.

Fire investigators are working with Endicott police detectives in an effort to determine the cause of the blaze.

People in the area reported hearing the sound of a possible explosion around the time the fire broke out. Investigators were looking into reports that fireworks were being set off prior to the blaze.
