New York State Police say 21-year-old Joseph Newfrock is charged with felony criminal possession of a firearm, assault and menacing as well as misdemeanor criminal obstruction of breathing and criminal mischief.

Troopers say they were called with a report of a domestic dispute on Columbia Drive at around 8:30 Thursday night.  The victim said there had been an argument over taking their car during which Newfrock allegedly threatened the person with an unregistered gun, hit the victim with the butt of the gun and choked them before taking off in the person’s car.

Authorities say a short time later, another trooper was called to a report of a crash into several parked cars on Alexander Street.

Newfrock was taken to Wilson Hospital for treatment of head injuries.

He’s been ordered to appear in Town of Union Court later this month.
