Broome School Zone Speeder Charged with Weapon and Drug Counts
A driver who was pulled over for speeding in a Town of Union school zone faces several felony charges after police found a loaded gun and heroin in his car.
Authorities said troopers saw a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Union Center Maine Highway Tuesday.
According to state police, the driver - 37-year-old Brian F. Auditor of Berkshire - did not have a valid driver's license.
During a search of Auditor's car, a police dog helped troopers find a loaded semiautomatic rifle and two illegal large-capacity magazines. The search also turned up 26 grams of black tar heroin.
During a follow-up investigation, investigators located more guns at the man's Tioga County home. Police said Auditor does not have a license to possess a pistol or revolver as required by state law.
Auditor has been charged with third-degree criminal possession of an assault weapon and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, along with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon. He also was charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count of criminal possession of a controlled substance.
Auditor was processed at the Endwell state police station. He then was taken to Broome County Jail in the town of Dickinson for arraignment.
