Four months after a popular Endicott bakery produced its last loaf of Italian bread, the place is being prepared for an auction and sale.

Felix Roma & Sons Bakery on South Page Avenue shut off its ovens at the end of May. The business, which started on the village's North Side, had been in operation for eight decades.

At the time, company representatives said little about the decision to shut down the bakery.

A longtime Felix Roma employee told a reporter on Thursday that preparations were underway for an upcoming auction. He was unable to provide details and a supervisor at the closed bakery declined to comment on plans for the property.

An online listing posted last May indicated the site was being offered for sale with an asking price of $1.1 million.

The listing noted the property included three acres of land and parking. The site also is in Endicott's municipal electric district, which offers lower rates for power.

The Felix Roma bakery built its South Page Avenue production facility in 1969. The operation was expanded three years later due to increased demand for the company's products.
