Authorities said 22-year-old Drew Townsend of 832 Catalina Boulevard was arrested after a woman was seriously hurt during a domestic dispute on July 31.

Endicott police said the incident occurred in an apartment at 36 Arthur Avenue. They said the 43-year-old woman was injured when Townsend choked and repeatedly struck her. She also was said to have been hit with an object.

Townsend initially was charged with attempted murder. He later was indicted on that charge, along with counts of assault, strangulation and criminal contempt.

Prosecutors said Townsend was sentenced in Broome County Court on Friday for second-degree assault and second-degree strangulation.

In addition to the time in state prison, Townsend was sentenced to six years parole.
