A Town of Union facility that will pay people for blood plasma donations is about to become operational.

CSL Plasma plans to open the center at 519 Hooper Road in Endwell on July 16.

The site previously was occupied by a Volunteers of America thrift store. Renovation work was completed several months ago.

CSL Plasma spokeswoman Mary Coates said plasma is used by parent company CSL Behring to manufacture various therapies.

Coates said plasma donors are paid between $30 and $50 per visit. The payments are added to a debit card. Plasma donors must be between 18 and 65 years old.

Coates said the Endwell office will be open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A CSL Plasma representative two years ago told town officials the renovations to prepare the facility were expected to cost about $1.3 million.
