Two small businesses are still shut down following a spectacular blaze in Endicott's business district.

The October 8 fire damaged a three-story building at the corner of Washington Avenue and North Street.

Much of the structure sustained smoke and water damage, although actual fire damage was contained to a single apartment.

The operators of a grocery store and a cellphone shop have been wondering when they'll be able to reopen.

The building owner - Vincenza Cimino of Long Island - said she intends to have the building repaired.

Cimino on Wednesday told WNBF News that she is hoping some reconstruction work can get underway within the next week.

Cimino expressed frustration with the process of preparing to start renovations in the aftermath of the fire. She said she wants the commercial tenants to be able to return as soon as possible.

The owners of Jaygold African/Caribbean Market and the Metro by T-Mobile store said they had been waiting to hear exactly when they'd be able to reopen.
