Endicott’s Iconic “Red Lion” Restaurant Building Coming Down
A building that has been home to a series of popular restaurants in West Endicott is about to be demolished.
The Broome County Land Bank is preparing to announce its plans to tear down the abandoned structure at 737 West Main Street.
The agency acquired the building across from En-Joie Golf Club last January. The property was sold by Iliya Honovich of Johnson City for $325,000.
The Red Lion restaurant was a fixture at the site for many years. Russell's Steak and Seafood House then operated there for about a decade.
Honovich and his wife opened Food Fusion Bar and Grill at the location in 2016. That establishment closed its doors in 2021 and the building has been idle ever since.
The Land Bank has hired LCP Group of Vestal to remove the vacant structure. The demolition is scheduled to occur Wednesday.
The former restaurant property is adjacent to the old Red Carpet Inn motel. That abandoned building was acquired by the Land Bank. It was torn down last year.
The agency is expected to seek proposals for redevelopment on the combined parcels. About two acres will be available for a future project on the site, which is southwest of the Charles F. Johnson Elementary School.
