Endicott Locks Down Problem Spot Near School
It took several months but a nuisance property across the street from an Endicott school has been cleared out by court order.
Village police frequently received complaints about problems regarding the people who were staying at 108 South Loder Avenue.
Trouble involving reported drug use, loose dogs and general mayhem prompted Endicott officials to take legal action to have the place locked down.
Broome County Supreme Court issued an order to close the property that's directly across from Jennie F. Snapp Middle School.
When police showed up to enforce the order, Mayor Nick Burlingame said there were "an alarming number of people" at the house. He estimated more than two dozen people were there.
Police officers were assisted by the village street and code enforcement departments. They also were helped by representatives of the Department of Social Services, the Addiction Center of Broome County and the town of Union dog control office.
According to property records, the house had been owned by Michael Gillette. But ownership was transferred to Jeet & Sons LLC of 132-138 West Main Street, Endicott in August.
