Grippen Park in Endicott Not Ready for Inaugural Concert
The first of three scheduled concerts planned for Grippen Community Park in Endicott was postponed because construction work had not been completed.
A $4.3 million renovation project at the facility just east of the En-Joie Golf Course has been underway for more than a year.
County officials had hoped the park could reopen this week but that didn't happen.
The inaugural concert at the park had been scheduled for Thursday, June 19. The event was to feature the band "Beard of Bees."
According to an online post from the group, the concert has been rescheduled because "the venue is not ready for bands yet."
The Beard of Bees concert has been rescheduled for Thursday, September 18. Other groups are to be featured at the free admission events at Grippen Park in July and August.
The park's original building that had been constructed to serve as an ice rink has been completely renovated for a new array of indoor activities.
A small portable ice rink will be set up in the structure for use during the winter.
The reimagined Grippen Community Park will have five pickleball courts, a basketball court, a flag football field and a wiffle ball stadium.
Several dozen parking spaces will be available in a newly-repaved park at the site.
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar said work will continue to complete a trail extension from Grippen to the Roundtop Picnic area. He said the trail route will be along the Susquehanna River.
