Endicott Coffee Shop Replaces Notorious Deli on The Avenue
A prominent spot on Endicott's Washington Avenue that had been the source of trouble in the past has been transformed into a coffee shop.
North Blendz has opened at 2 Washington Avenue. The storefront had been occupied in recent years by a business originally called NYC Deli & Grocery. The "NYC" was dropped from the outdoor sign and the place was renamed "Endicott Deli."
Two years ago, then-mayor Linda Jackson said there had been plenty of problems with the store. The property owners apparently evicted the deli.
The new business at the site - North Blendz - is owned by Saif Almairi, who lives nearby. He said the place has been in a "soft open" phase in recent days to allow people in the neighborhood to get acquainted with it.
During the initial phase, the coffee shop at the corner of Washington Avenue and North Street is opening at 7 a.m. daily. Almairi said he plans to eventually open the business at 5 a.m. to accommodate early-risers.
In addition to coffee drinks, North Blendz, will offer fresh juices and smoothies. The menu also lists milkshakes, protein shakes and fruit salads. Waffles and crepes, along with ice cream also will be available at the shop.
Almairi said people who've visited the business have been pleased to see the spot has been renovated and has something new to offer.
The shop is located near the BAE Systems building on the Huron Campus just across North Street.
