Endicott Byrne Dairy Opening: “It’s Going to Be Really Crazy”
Drivers seeking a big gasoline discount could make things interesting as Byrne Dairy & Deli opens its first store in the Binghamton area.
The Syracuse-based company is planning three stores in Broome County. Its Endicott location is scheduled to open Wednesday.
The store at East Main Street and Loder Avenue is planning to sell regular gas for $3.99 a gallon for customers who use the Byrne Dairy membership card. The discount is scheduled to be in effect through June 10.
Endicott Mayor Linda Jackson has been looking forward to the store's opening. On Tuesday afternoon, she predicted "they're going to be very busy."
With interest in the first local Byrne store in addition to the gasoline deal, Jackson said "it'll stop traffic." She said "it's going to be really crazy for awhile." But she said she expected people driving on East Main Street would anticipate some congestion associated with the opening of the business.
A "protected left turn arrow" recently was added to the traffic signal at the intersection to enable eastbound motorists on Main Street to enter the store parking lot via Loder Avenue.
Endicott Police Chief Patrick Garey said his officers will be in the area monitoring the traffic situation.
Byrne Dairy vice president Christian Brunelle said the store will be ready to open at 6 a.m. Wednesday.
Additional Byrne Dairy locations are to open in coming months in Endwell and Whitney Point.
