A Kirkwood man has set up shop in a storefront on Endicott's Washington Avenue.

Dustin Wilson has opened a business called The Popcorn Guy on the north end of the recently-reconstructed street.

Wilson said he had operated a food tent and a food truck at farmers markets and the Spiedie Fest in recent year selling "gourmet popcorn" in a wide array of unusual flavors.

Wilson was planning to open a new kitchen as a production facility but he later decided to establish a small retail store on The Avenue.

The Popcorn Guy location at 8 1/2 Washington Avenue opened in late November. Customers can choose from dozens of packaged snacks at the shop. Orders may be placed online for pickup or delivery.

Wilson will be working with local organizations interested in fundraising through popcorn sales.

The site of the new store was occupied by a beauty supply shop for a few years.

Wilson has experimented with various flavors to tempt and intrigue traditional popcorn lovers. Lemon, banana and cotton candy flavored popcorn are among the more interesting variants.

Some of the flavors - Fruity Pebbles and Cinnamon Toast Crunch - have been inspired by breakfast favorites.

Wilson conceded not all of his concoctions are success stories. He said one notable flop was a "Butter Kettle" combo that aimed at combining traditional buttery popcorn with kettle corn. He said things just didn't caramelize properly.
