Motorists traveling through downtown Binghamton and the city's West Side once again are facing detours and delays as crews work on some big street reconstruction projects.

Detours are popping up this week along sections of Riverside Drive as milling operations are being conducted.

The resurfacing work is being done between Front Street and Beethoven Street.

The milling project is moving from east to west. Riverside Drive was closed to through traffic between Murray Street and Vermont Avenue on Wednesday.

Work on Thursday is scheduled to be performed between Vermont Avenue and Beethoven Street. Paving operations are planned for next week.

Drivers traveling on another key east-west thoroughfare in Binghamton also are encountering some detours as the $6.2 million Main Street reconstruction project continues.

That project started at the Johnson City line a year ago. This year's work is being done on Main Street between Glenwood Avenue and Front Street.

Motorists also have been contending with constantly changing traffic patterns in downtown Binghamton in recent weeks.

A project on a section of Washington Street near the Forum and the Federal Building has resumed.

Drivers have faced detours at various times on Washington Street, Henry Street and Water Street this spring.
