Two Dogs Found Abandoned at Condemned Endicott House
Endicott police were called to a recently-condemned property in the village after a neighbor spotted a couple of dogs tied up to the house.
Mayor Nick Burlingame said code enforcement officials determined people had been residing in the home at 108 Cleveland Avenue although there was no water or electric service there.
Police were sent to the house Wednesday afternoon to be sure no one remained inside before village street department workers boarded up the building. Condemnation notices were posted the following day.
On Friday morning, someone reported two dogs apparently had been abandoned outside the house. They were tied up to a porch on the rear side of the building.
Burlingame said police contact the Union town dog control officer and the animals were removed from the property. He said police believe they know the identity of the owner of the dogs. The matter has been referred to the Broome County Humane Society.
Property records indicate the house was owned by a man who is believed to have died about two years ago.
Burlingame said he was not aware of any neighborhood complaints or criminal incidents involving people who had been staying in the house.
