Denis Hamel Selected to American Hockey League Hall of Fame

One of Binghamton's all-time great professional hockey players, Denis Hamel, has been selected for induction into the American Hockey League Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2020.  Hamel spent six seasons playing for the Binghamton Senators from 2003 -10.  He also played in 192 games in the National Hockey League with Atlanta and Philadelphia.

According to information from the Binghamton Devils Hamel ranks 11th in American Hockey League (AHL) history with 338 goals and scored 651 points in 850 AHL games. Hamel's best season was in the 2005-06 campaign when he scored 56 goals and notched 35 assists for 91 total points. His 56 goal total earned him the Willie Marshall Award symbolic of the leading goal scorer in the AHL.

Hamel was Binghamton's captain for four seasons and earned numerous league honors.  In 2000, 2006, and 2008 he was a member of the AHL All-Star  team and was named the winner of the Yanick Dupree Memorial AHL Man of the Year Award in 2008 for community service.  Hamel was inducted into the Binghamton Hockey Hall of Fame in 2014.
