Defensive Driving Course for Veterans at SUNY Broome
Broome County is offering a defensive driving course for veterans and family members.
Seating is limited to two dozen participants at a cost of five dollars. The course is open only to veterans and their families, will run from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. September 29 at the Decker Building at the SUNY Broome Community campus and lunch is included.
To register, call the SUNY Broome Continuing Education Department at (607) 778-5012. Participants will be issued receipts with class location and time details along with a parking pass. Registration closes September 28.
The Point and Insurance Reduction Course is approved by the Department of Motor Vehicles. The program presents information and safe driving tips focusing on common traffic safety challenges veterans face in months and years following overseas deployments.
Broome County’s Stop DWI Coordinator, Chris Marion has commented on previous programs that veterans find themselves with special challenges after returning from deployment in replacing aggressive driving skills needed while on tour with civilian defensive driving practices. The challenges can come up even after years following overseas deployments.
The September 29 course is organized and funded in part by the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group and Broome County.
