Fans say they miss it....player's say they want it and owners say let's get it done. But as of this (Monday) afternoon baseball continues to be stuck with no apparent ending.  The NHL and NBA are making major advances to work out a way to resume play and finish with championships of some kind.  The NFL continues plans to open its season on time.  Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Player's Association continue negotiations to attempt to reach an agreement to begin the regular season. So far the sides are at an impasse.

According to ESPN's Jeff Passan, writing on espn.com MLB still wants to begin the season in the first week of July. But time for that to happen is running out.  Passan says MLB and Commissioner Rob Manfred may present their return to play proposal to the Player's Association as early as today Tuesday).

More than health concerns the sticking point now is compensation for the players. The Player's Association believes their representatives have in place a deal that pro-rates each player's salary on a per game basis.  If that is the case each game played would be worth 1/162nd (total games per season) of a player's salary.  MLB believes their negotiators can have in place a 50-50 monetary split due to a clause that was supposedly included in a March 26 meeting stating that any deal changes with no fans allowed to attend which dramatically lowers the revenue.

Meanwhile players at the other end of the compensation issue are those like Binghamton Rumble Ponies players.  Minor League players got a commitment from MLB to receive salaries of $400 per week through this Sunday, May 31. Then, depending on the situation with MLB and the Player's Association the minor leaguers may be out of any income in less than one week.  Plus, going forward there is no decision on whether or not there will even be a minor league season.
