An 11 year old Delaware County boy is being treated for what are described as serious injuries after crashing an All Terrain Vehicle in the Town of Hamden.

Sheriff’s officials say the child was riding the ATV on Stoddard Hollow Road at around 1:45 p.m. April 21 when he tried to take a right-hand turn too fast and the vehicle overturned in a ditch, pinning him.

The boy’s 9 year old brother, who was a passenger, was not hurt and ran home to call for help.

Police say the 11 year old driver was airlifted to Albany Medical Center with head injuries.

Both children were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

The Sheriff’s Office says it wants to remind ATV riders that the vehicles are not designed for operation on highways, cannot legally be operated on a public road and should not be driven by children without proper training and supervision.
