Johnson City Chick-fil-A: Bank About to Be Torn Down for Eatery
A Key Bank that has been standing in the way of a Chick-fil-A restaurant in Johnson City is expected to be demolished in a few weeks.
The bank branch in the Oakdale Commons was shut down Friday afternoon. Key Bank three months ago announced plans to close the office after refusing to comment on the future of the site.
Spark JC, the owners of the Oakdale Commons, revealed a contract had been signed last spring for a Chick-fil-A restaurant.
The restaurant developer has been working quietly for several months to obtain needed approvals for the long-awaited project.
Marc Newman, a Spark JC partner, told WNBF News asbestos removal in the now-closed Key Bank building should occur soon. He said demolition of the structure is scheduled to start November 17.
Tearing down the building should be accomplished quickly. After it's removed, crews working for the Oakdale Commons will move forward with pad and site preparation.
Newman said the site is scheduled to be turned over to the developer of the Chick-fil-A project by March 1.
Newman said he doesn't know the planned construction schedule for the restaurant. The business is expected to open by the end of 2026 but there has been no formal announcement from Chick-fil-A.
