Route 8 in Chenango County will get some upgrades as part of new funding from the state and federal government announced on Friday.

$9 million will be applied to safety enhancements, such as shoulder widening and horizontal curve flattening on the roadway in the Towns of Norwich, New Berlins and Columbus.

Across the state, $206 million in funding will be used to improve 1,200 miles of roads that are part of the National Freight Network.

The spending on the freight roads is aimed at enhancing infrastructure, reduce congestion, and decrease the cost of freight transportation.
