Construction on the facility has been underway since fall. Workers have taken advantage of the milder-than-normal winter weather to erect the building.

The farmers market structure is being built behind the Cornell Cooperative Extension building on Upper Front Street. The new facility is located just west of Interstate 81.

Dickinson town supervisor Michael Marinaccio said the project is "moving along very nicely."

Although a target date for the opening of the building has not been made public, Marinaccio said town officials have been hearing it could start operating in June or July.

Broome County officials in 2012 said the year-round farmers market would be constructed in Otsiningo Park. But that site was deemed unusable after Native American remains were discovered in an archaeological study.
