SUNY Broome Student Village Repair Project Underway
Construction crews are working to make repairs to the exterior of the student housing complex at SUNY Broome Community College.
The project at the Student Village facility on the campus in the town of Dickinson began a few weeks ago.
A SUNY Broome spokesperson said in addition to the façade renovation work this summer, there will be upgrades to the building's HVAC system along with other infrastructure improvements.
SUNY Broome is spending nearly $1 million on work at the Student Village complex this summer.
The $18 million four-story facility is operated by BCC Housing Development Corporation. It was constructed using dozens of prefabricated modules that were assembled after being trucked to the site from Scranton.
The Student Village complex opened in the summer of 2014. About 300 students have been residing in the 60 apartment-style suites in recent years.

SUNY Broome officials had said they hoped the availability of on-campus housing would help in their effort to increase enrollment at the community college.
It's not clear why the façade repair work was necessary less than 12 years after the Student Village opened.
At one point, SUNY Broome officials discussed the possibility of adding another wing to the housing complex but that option has not been approved.
