Binghamton Gas Prices Dropping Before the Fourth of July

Drivers in the Binghamton area are expressing some relief as gasoline prices at many stations have now dipped below four dollars a gallon.

Average prices in the region remain nearly 90 cents a gallon higher compared to a year ago, according to the AAA survey of retailers.

A common posted price for regular gas in Broome County on Tuesday was $3.99. But some stations were charging significantly less than that.

SNK Fuels on Front Street in the town of Chenango was pleasing customers with a cash price of $3.67. The station was charging six cents more per gallon for credit card purchases.

The neighboring Byrne Dairy store posted prices of $3.69 for "members" and $3.79 for "non-members."

Drivers who spoke with a reporter at SNK Fuels said they were pleased with the lower prices they've been paying in recent weeks.

Although they're enjoying the break, several said they were concerned prices could quickly rise again if the war against Iran heats up again.

President Donald Trump this week said he believes gas prices aren't falling fast enough.

In a social media post Monday evening, Trump said retailers "must get their Prices down, IMMEDIATELY!" He suggested they should "start targeting around the $2.50 a Gallon number."
