County and Endicott Reps Finally Talking About Future of En-Joie
After a standoff that's dragged on for years, there's some apparent progress in developing a viable plan to address expensive repair work needed at the En-Joie Golf Course.
Broome County Executive Jason Garnar has repeatedly complained about the lack of a response from Endicott officials. Although the county manages the course, the site is owned by the village.
Garnar has expressed concern about the fate of the annual Dick's Sporting Goods Open if an agreement isn't reached with Endicott representatives to replace the course irrigation system.
The county executive said the county is "having very productive conversations with the village" about the future of the golf course.
Garnar told WNBF News this is the last year of the county's current management agreement for the facility. He said there was "a good conversation" with Endicott Mayor Nick Burlingame last week.
Garnar said he expects there will be a resolution of the issue "within the next month or two."
The county has proposed taking ownership of the golf course from the village in exchange for covering the cost of the irrigation system project, which has been estimated to be at least $8 million.
Garnar didn't discuss exactly how he believes the matter will be resolved.
This year's Dick's Sporting Goods Open activities are scheduled to run from June 22 to 28.
