A lot has happened in criminal justice and law enforcement in Broome County since District Attorney Steve Cornwell took office.

The D.A., speaking on the weekly local public affairs program, Southern Tier Close Up June 17 with an encore June 24, Cornwell talks about continued challenges in reducing crime in the region.

The District Attorney says Broome County has the highest crime rate of any county in New York State but inroads are being made.

Cornwell explains in length the reasons behind plea bargains and reacts to the recent change in New York State increasing the age that a young offender can be incarcerated to 18.

Southern Tier Close Up can be heard Saturdays at 12:10 p.m. on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
