Binghamton Resident Sentenced to Prison for Multiple Drug-Related Charges

Hasaan A. Coston, a 49-year-old Binghamton resident, will spend the next 12 years in a New York State prison for multiple drug-related charges.

According to the Broome County District Attorney's Office, the guilty verdict was handed down to Coston after a Broome County jury found him guilty of felony Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree, Criminal Use of Drug Paraphernalia, and other drug-related charges.

Coston was arrested on July 29, 2021, when the Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant at an apartment situated at 100 Roberts Street in the city of Binghamton. The law enforcement agency found over 5.6 ounces of cocaine, crack cocaine, baggies, a scale, and $1,200 in Coston's possession.

On August 5, 2022, another search warrant was executed at 204 Harrison Avenue in the Village of Endicott, again yielding results for the authorities. Coston was found with over 2.5 ounces of cocaine, crack cocaine, and $1,260 in cash in his possession.

Coston had previously been convicted of a felony drug offense in Nassau County in 2008. Due to this, he will also have to serve seven years of post-release supervision.

Furthermore, Coston's failure to lead a law-abiding life will now result in stiff penalties, according to Michael A. Korchak, the Broome County District Attorney. “The Broome County District Attorney’s Office will continue to aggressively prosecute repeat offenders. Mr. Coston obviously refuses to lead a law-abiding life and must accept responsibility for his criminal conduct,” Korchak said.

The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force investigated Coston's case. Senior Assistant District Attorney Joseph F. Nieto was the lead prosecutor for the District Attorney’s Office.
