Colesville Man Sentenced to 12 Years to Life for Assaulting a New York State Trooper
In a recent development, Dylan M. Shoemaker, a resident of Colesville, has been sentenced to 12 years to life for Assault in the Second Degree, as announced by Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti. The sentencing took place today in Broome County Court.
The incident leading to the penalty unfolded on February 6, 2023, when New York State Troopers responded to Shoemaker's residence in the Village of Nineveh to investigate a domestic incident. During his apprehension, Shoemaker lashed out and punched a Trooper, inflicting injury upon the officer.
"Acts of violence against the men and women of law enforcement will not be tolerated. Our community relies on the dedication and bravery of law enforcement officers, and we are committed to ensuring their safety," expressed District Attorney Battisti, stressing the importance of safeguarding those who serve and protect.

Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every day to maintain peace and security within the community. Any form of assault against them not only undermines their vital role but also poses a threat to the safety and well-being of the public at large.
The New York State Police conducted a thorough investigation into the incident, ultimately leading to Shoemaker's arrest and subsequent prosecution. Deputy District Attorney Lucas Finley skillfully presented the case on behalf of the District Attorney's Office.
