Broome County’s Last Dine-In Pizza Hut Restaurant Closes
After more than four decades, the Pizza Hut restaurant in the Union District of Endicott has been shut down.
The Pizza Hut at 207 East Main Street was the last traditional dine-in restaurant of the national chain in the region.
People who live nearby said restaurant operations ceased several weeks ago as closures were ordered because of the coronavirus pandemic. They said signage at the site was removed in recent days.
A notice posted in the entrance blames COVID-19 for the closing, stating "we are hopeful and optimistic that we will re-open" after the pandemic is over.
The location has been removed from the Pizza Hut website. The phone number for the Endicott restaurant connects callers with the recorded message: "We are closed now."
The Endicott Pizza Hut restaurant opened in 1977. For many years, several dine-in Pizza Hut locations operated in Broome and Tioga counties.
Pizza Hut last year announced it planned to close 500 dine-in restaurants to shift its focus to takeout and delivery units.
