Broome County officials are reporting on-going operations to crack down on Welfare Fraud have saved over $12 million in potential undeserved payments last year.

Broome Security last year reviewed almost 12,000 filings, disqualifying 437 on non-criminal grounds and charging 83 people with welfare fraud.

Officials say welfare benefits are crucial for the people who really need them but fraud costs all county taxpayers thousands of dollars.

Anyone who believes someone is getting benefits to which they are not entitled, can report it at www.gobroomecounty.com and click on the Social Services Fraud reporting form.  Including your name and phone number are optional but could allow investigators to contact the reporting individual for additional information.
