Stay Cool This Week With Broome County’s Cooling Stations

Well, we wanted summer, and summer we have received. Maybe a bit too summery for some of us, but the thought of winter might make us feel a bit cooler! These next few days are going to be hotter than we normally experience.

National Weather Service Advisories

According to the National Weather Service as of midday on June 30, 2026, there is a Heat Advisory in effect from 12 noon to 8 p.m. for today, June 30, 2026.

And an Extreme Heat Watch will be in effect from Wednesday, July 1st  at 11 a.m. through Friday, July 3rd at 8 p.m., with dangerously hot conditions and heat index values up to 105 degrees possible.

The advisory and watch are for most of the Southern Tier and Central New York, along with Northeast Pennsylvania. Check the National Weather Service for updates.

Limit your outdoor activity during this time; check on your family, friends, and neighbors who may be susceptible to extreme heat conditions, and that also includes your pets. Bring them inside a cool area for safety.

Broome County has listed areas of local cooling stations for residents to take advantage of. In addition, for those who need transportation to a cooling station, Broome County Transit buses are offering free rides today, June 30, 2026, through Friday, July 3, 2026.
