Investigators say a 16-year-old Town of Chenango boy was hurt during a violent dispute with his father.

According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent to a home on River Road around 7:15 a.m. Thursday.

Authorities say 56-year-old John Tipler had been involved in a "verbal altercation" with his son. The dispute escalated into a "physical confrontation" during which the boy was cut with a knife. The teenager sustained what were described as minor injuries.

Tipler was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree menacing and endangering the welfare of a child. He was ordered to appear in Chenango town court at a future date.
