
Man Charged with Assault on Corrections Sergeant During Booking at Broome County Jail
In the early hours of Sunday, June 15, 2025, Christopher A. Dickinson, 58, was brought into the Broome County Correctional Facility by Johnson City Police. He was initially charged with Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree, a Class D Felony. What began as a routine booking procedure quickly turned violent.
Unexpected Violence During Booking
At approximately 1:20 a.m., just minutes after the intake process started, Dickinson struck a female Corrections Sergeant in the face with a closed fist. The Sergeant, who has served nine years with the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, was seriously injured in the attack.
Sergeant’s Injuries and Medical Care
The assaulted officer was immediately taken to UHS Wilson Hospital. Medical staff determined that she had suffered a fractured nose as a result of the punch.
Additional Charges and Legal Proceedings
Following the assault, Dickinson was charged with Assault on a Peace Officer, a Class C Felony. He was arraigned at Central Arraignment and remanded back to the Broome County Correctional Facility to await further legal action.

Sheriff’s Statement on the Incident
Sheriff Fred Akshar commented on the case, emphasizing the dangers corrections officers face daily. He noted that under New York State’s bail reform laws, Dickinson would likely have been released soon after his initial arraignment if he had not committed the assault. Instead, his violent act has added serious legal consequences. Sheriff Akshar also extended well wishes to the injured Sergeant for a quick recovery.
