Abandoned Southern Tier Pizza Hut Demolished
One of the last old-style Pizza Hut buildings in the Binghamton area now is history.
A demolition crew Thursday quickly knocked down the derelict structure on Hickories Park Road in the town of Owego.

LCP Group of Vestal was hired by the Tioga County Property Development Corporation to remove asbestos in the building and demolish what had become an eyesore.
People who live and work near the site of the abandoned structure have complained about deteriorating conditions for years.
The town of Owego cited GC Pizza Hut of Mount Kisco for ongoing code violations in July 2023.
The owner ultimately turned the property over to the county land bank which then moved to have the site cleared.
Larry Pierce of LCP Group and two of his sons showed up early Thursday morning to do what had to be done. The company will haul the demolition debris to a landfill in the Painted Post area.
Potential uses for the Pizza Hut site will be limited because it's located within the 100-year and 500-year floodplains.
