Visitors will be able to tour the facility as well as meet the adoptable dogs waiting for a home.

The facility could also use donations of cleaning items like Tide liquid laundry detergent, bleach and blue Dawn dish soap along with items for the resident pooches.  The dogs would like Nyla Bones, Purina One dry dog food, plush squeak toys and rawhides.  Monetary donations are, of course, always appreciated.

The Broome County Dog Shelter has been in operation since 1956 and takes in strays and dogs that need new homes from 10 municipalities that contract for services.  The Dog Shelter operates independently of County funds and is supported through the municipal contracts, adoption fees, redemption fees and donations.

The Shelter also offers education for the community and has a limited boarding facility called Camp Barkalot for families to board their pet that is unable to travel with them.

For more information go to www.gobroomecounty.com/shelter.

The shelter is just south of the SUNY Broome Campus and can be accessed by turning onto Lt. VanWinkle Dr. off Upper Front Street then onto Cutler Pond Road.
