Broome County district attorney candidate Debra Gelson has called on Paul Battisti to pull a campaign commercial that she contends is filled with false information.

Gelson, the Democratic candidate in the three-way race, on Friday denounced what she called "attack ads" placed by the Battisti campaign.

Battisti is the Republican candidate. Michael Korchak is running as the Libertarian Party candidate.

Speaking to reporters at her campaign office in downtown Binghamton, Gelson said one recent Battisti commercial is "so full of lies it is almost laughable."

Gelson rejected the suggestion that she had just moved to Broome County to run for office. She said she moved to the Binghamton area in 2017 to accept a position with the local office of the Tully Rinckey law firm.

Gelson also refuted an assertion in the Battisti ad that she has handled only a small number of criminal cases during her time in Broome County. She said she has been assigned or been retained in more than 50 "serious felony criminal matters" since arriving in Binghamton.

Gelson said she saw Battisti's latest TV commercial on Friday during the "Wheel of Fortune" program.

In an email statement, Battisti said Gelson's "resume on LinkedIn clearly states a work history as described in the television spots." He wrote: "(T)he bottom line is that she has practiced law in New York state for only two years, just recently moved to Broome County, and quite simply doesn't understand the issues facing our community."

This story has been updated to include Paul Battisti's response to Debra Gelson's comments regarding campaign advertising.
