Bovina Man Charged With Over Four Dozen Counts For Check Theft/ Forgery
A Bovina man faces several dozen charges after checks were stolen from a home and forged for payments at Pindars Corners and Margaretville branches of the Delaware national Bank of Delhi.
Delaware County Sheriff’s officials say they got a complaint on September 4 about a number of checks stolen from a home on Bovina. The investigation took authorities to the banks where the stolen checks had been forged and presented for payment between mid-August and September 1.
September 22, 21-year-old Sean Gillespie was arrested on 54 counts: one felony count of grand larceny and 18 misdemeanor counts EACH of criminal possession of a forged instrument, criminal possession of stolen property and offering a false instrument for filing.
Gillespie is accused of stealing nearly $4,000 as a result of allegedly presenting the stolen and forged checks to the bank.
He was released on his own recognizance pending appearance in Town of Delhi Court at a later date.
