The  Binghamton Bearcats men's and women's basketball teams were hoping to sweep the season series with the Maine Black Bears when the two schools met on the hardwood Saturday at the Events Center.  Both BU teams earned road victories in Orono, Maine last month.

However, it was the Black Bears who returned the favor on the Bearcats as Maine defeated the BU women 74-68 and the Black Bears downed the BU men  64-60.  Liz Wood scored 22 points and added 13 rebounds for Maine.  Jasbriell Swain paced the Bearcats with 15 points and 14 rebounds in the loss.  Maine's record goes to 3-22 overall and 2-10 in America East.  The Bearcats drop to 4-22 and 3-10 in AE play.

In the nightcap Maine used a 13 point lead at the half and held on to top Binghamton  64-60.  The win avenges a BU 57-56 decision in Orono earlier this season.  Freshmen standout Jordan Reed turned an 0-10 shooting start and three points at the half to a 26- point second half to finish with 29 points and almost singlehandedly lead the Bearcats back into the game.

The Bearcats won the battle on the boards 52-46, including 16 offensive rebounds.  Maine sank 6-10 free throws in the final three minutes to secure the win.  Maine moves to 11-15 overall and 6-7 in the conference.  Binghamton has not won since the victory in Maine and is now 3-23 overall and 1-12 in AE.  BU is idle until this weekend when the women travel to New Hampshire Saturday at 1 PM.  The men play in New Hamshire the following day also at 1 PM.  Airtime both days is set for 12:50 PM on News Radio 1290 WNBF.
